World Wish Day 2025

On 29 April each year, Make-A-Wish affiliates in nearly 50 countries come together to celebrate World Wish Day, to mark the anniversary of the first wish that inspired the founding of Make-A-Wish in 1980.

Since then, the charity has gone on to grant thousands of wishes that have the power to turn tears into cheers, rescuing the magic of childhood even in their toughest times, and providing a lifeline for families to spend precious time together.

Our partnership began in 2019 and thanks to colleagues' efforts, we have helped grant 141 magical wishes for critically ill children and their families by donating over £283,000.

Whether it is having a princess ball, becoming a scientist, or meeting a favourite YouTuber, granting a wish restores hope for a child and improves their mental well-being and can be a turning point in their medical journey.

Our donations have not only helped to grant these brilliant wishes, but have also helped to:

  • Buy 14,150 furnishings for children who wish for a transformational bedroom makeover.
  • Buy 1,410 games consoles for children who have long stays in hospital.
  • Buy 566 tablets for children who want to stay in contact with their friends while they are in hospital having treatment.
  • Buy 283 specialist bikes for children who wish to have their own bike so they can play with their siblings.
